The Rogina laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for studies on the basic biology of aging in the fruit fly model system, Drosophila melanogaster. The goal of this work is to determine the molecular, biochemical and physiological changes associated with two life-extending interventions, caloric restriction and the long-lived Indy mutation. Mutations in the Drosophila Indy gene dramatically extend life span without a decrease in metabolic rate, physical activity or fertility. INDY protein is a dicarboxylate transporter of Krebs cycle intermediates and is primarily found in tissues important for intermediate metabolism in the fly. Applicants should have a background in molecular biology and genetics, and be capable of creative and independent work that will include microarray data validation, biochemical and genetic studies.
