Human embryonic stem cell research is a technology which scientists in Connecticut have gained unprecedented access. Due to generous financial support pledged by the State of Connecticut, as well as the UConn Health Center’s dedication and sponsorship, this technology has become more available than ever before.
The University of Connecticut Stem Cell Core (UCSCC) holds training sessions available to those individuals who are members of laboratories at UCHC and other academic research facilities. These scientists are students, post-docs, research assistants, and faculty. Former trainees come from four different universities in Connecticut.
Training sessions each last four afternoons in a row, and can accommodate up to six people at a time. During training, each individual will receive HESCs to use during all exercises of training. Trainees will be given a protocol manual, and each will be directed through the laboratory procedures outlined in the manual during the supervised training sessions.
Laboratory procedures covered during training include the essential basics: Feeder plate preparation, making culture media, recognizing and removing non-specific differentiated cells; Training includes discussion of cell banking and quality control. Necessary supplies and equipment are also covered.
To register for HESC Culture training, please complete the application form.
It is preferable to send in training form as early as possible to indicate interest, as this helps us determine the training schedule frequency. Once the training form is received, you will be contacted to set up the date of your training. In order to reserve a spot for a specific training date, you will need to visit our store and purchase a training session to hold the spot. If you are not an employee of UCHC, or are unfamiliar with the system, please contact the UConn Stem Cell Core at UCSCIcore@uchc.edu.
No-shows will not be able to receive a refund.
Please contact ucscicore@uchc.edu with any questions.
